The assignment
Steep approach slopes and a sensitive riparian corridor made sediment release the dominant risk on this contract, with a hard requirement that downstream abstraction points stay usable throughout construction.
We designed a staged erosion and sediment control system tied to the earthworks programme, and kept a resident environmentalist and safety officer on site to audit it weekly against the contractor's method statements.
The crossing was handed over with zero lost-time incidents, no recorded turbidity exceedance at the downstream intake, and 1,850 metres of riparian planting established and under a two-year maintenance guarantee.
